Raji Ridwan, from the Department of Microbiology, has again made OAU proud at the NAMS national conference held at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) by winning the microbial spelling bee competition among all other universities.
They were earlier reports about the intervarsity quiz competition won by OAU recently at the conference. While speaking with one of the microbiology students present at the conference, he explained that 12 schools were present for the spelling bee competition and 6 schools were later disqualified for the last round. The six qualified schools for the last round were AAUA, FUNAAB, FUTA, OAU, BOWEN, UNN & NSUKKA.
He explained further that after so many rounds of the competition, the two schools left were OAU and AAUA. The battle then continued between the two students as both of them kept getting the spellings correctly
“The judges then proceeded to ask questions outside the material which was given. After then, OAU got 2 out of 3 while AAUA got 1 out of 3 making OAU the winner of the spelling bee competition.” he said.
Newspoint learned that Raji Ridwan being the winner was the only person that did not misspell a word until the last round of the competition. We also gathered that Raji Ridwan was given an award along with 50,000 naira while the second & third with 30k and 20k respectively
